PETALING JAYA, 10 January 2012 – The auspicious Year of the Dragon will soon be off to a roaring start as people ring in the new year with friends and loved ones. While a time for celebrating good health, wealth and success, it is also important to take a moment to give back to those unable to usher in the new year with their own families, by sharing the happiness and joy of the season. In the spirit of this festive occasion, the Curve, Malaysia’s first pedestrianised lifestyle shopping centre, invited senior citizens from Kajang Caring Old Folks Home for a special Lunar New Year treat. The group of 26 senior citizens from the charitable organisation were greeted by the Curve’s management team and ushered to the Centre Court, which had been decorated in a style reminiscent of an Ancient Chinese courtyard house.
Using the principles of feng shui, courtyard houses are said to create a balance between the environment and the residents of the house, leading to good fortune and prosperity. Complete with festive red lanterns, beautiful bonsai trees and traditional wooden structures, it was a truly classic Lunar New Year environment at the Curve.

Encik Jazmi Kamarudin, Assistant Centre Manager, the Curve, said, “At the Curve, we pride ourselves in honouring the many diverse traditions that Malaysia celebrates and Chinese New Year is no exception. As part of our efforts to reach out to the community during festive occasions, it is a great pleasure for the Curve to bring some happiness to these senior citizens as we get ready to ring in the Year of the Dragon.”
To create a festive Chinese New Year ambience for their special guests, the Curve has put together an exciting line-up of performances. The celebrations kicked off with a rousing Chinese Drum Performance and the traditional dramatic art of Face Changing, where performers wear brightly coloured costumes and rapidly change their vividly coloured masks. The senior citizens were then entertained to a thrilling acrobatic Lion Dance show by the renowned, award-winning Kwong Ngai Lion Dance Troupe. They also thoroughly enjoyed a lively Chinese folk dance by an adorable children’s dance troupe who performed the Little Wonders Dance.

The senior citizens were also treated to a delicious lunch at Ah Tuan Ee, where they had the opportunity to loh sang, an annual Chinese New Year tradition of tossing the yee sang together and usher in good fortune for the year ahead.
As the festivities drew to a close, the senior citizens received goodie bags and Ang Pow packets courtesy of the Curve and G2000. The appearances of the God of Prosperity and the Little Princess of Prosperity also added to the fun.
The shopping mall will be featuring a wide variety of performances, activities and promotions for the enjoyment of shoppers from January 6 to 29, 2012 to commemorate the Chinese New Year festivities.
Among the highlights are a thrilling Dragon Dance, acrobatic Lion Dances, Chinese classical music shows, as well as 5 Emperor and 18 Seasons Drums performances to create a truly festive mood. Even kids can look forward to the children’s musical ensembles and art workshops.Photo left: Encik Jazmi Kamarudin, Assistant Centre Manager for the Curve (left) distributing Ang Pow packets to the senior citizens
