300 YEARS OF HERITAGE IN A SINGLE CUPPA!

TWININGS LEADS THE WAY TO PERFECTING THE ART OF TEA BLENDING AND BREWING OF THE FINEST TEA

Kuala Lumpur, 7 Sept 2011 – With over 300 years of history dating back to 1706, Twinings of London, one of the oldest English tea companies in the world, is widely associated with British tea culture. Stephen Twining, Director of Corporate Relations for Twinings, and a 10th generation member of the famous tea family, was recently in Kuala Lumpur to host a tea workshop on How to Make the Perfect Cuppa for members of the media.

Stephen was in Malaysia as part of his Southeast Asian tour to share his passion for tea, and to showcase to local tea lovers the way to perfect the art of tea blending and brewing. From the temperature of water, to the right amount of tea per serving and the all essential brewing time, Stephen demonstrated Twining’s time tested technique of how to brew the perfect cup of tea.

The interactive workshop also witness Stephen giving a brief history on tea, and sharing interesting insights on how Twinings of London™ has evolved since 1706 to become a symbol of quality for tea discerning drinkers around the globe.

Twinings, a name synonymous with fine quality tea, enjoys the reputation of setting the standard in tea-blending, using its unrivalled expertise to develop new and exciting blends and flavours for every palate and drinking occasion. Twinings was one of the very first companies to introduce tea drinking to the British when in 1706 its founder, Thomas Twining started selling tea from his newly purchased premises in The Strand, in London (a shop which still remains to this day). Thomas Twining left a great legacy: not only did he instill a whole host of tea-drinking traditions which remain embedded in social culture today, but his innovative approach has filtered down through each generation of the Twining family.

Today, Twinings of London™ is enjoyed in 115 countries, with nearly 250 different blends to its name from contemporary fruit infusions and herbal teas to its most popular blends: English Breakfast and the world-famous Earl Grey, an example of a fine, bespoke tea made especially for Charles Grey, the 2nd Prime Minister of England.

“Twinings constantly strives to create new blends and interpretations of tea to suit our ever changing lifestyles. We are dedicated to creating new tea-drinking experiences, and enhancing the traditions which are already so well-loved around the world. I think this goes a long way to explain why tea is enduring and as popular today as centuries ago when enthusiastic consumers included the renowned eighteenth century author Jane Austen,” remarked Stephen Twining.

Twinings has always focused on accessibility and innovation by introducing consumers to new, exciting and exotic tea options - from Darjeeling to decaffeinated; from green tea to iced tea.

Twinings was honoured in 1837 by Queen Victoria, when she appointed Twinings as the official supplier of teas to her household. Twinings has had the honour of supplying every successive British Monarch to date.

“When Twinings introduces a new product, you can be sure it is genuinely creating or enhancing a 'moment' in tea-drinking history, and one which will stand the test of time.” Stephen added.

At Twinings, whether you choose a herbal infusion like a buttery, calming chamomile at bedtime or a strong cup of Traditional Afternoon tea in the afternoon as a 'pick me up', there's always a tea for everyone, and for every occasion.

TYPES OF TEA INTRODUCED AT THE WORKSHOP:

1. EARL GREY
Fine black tea expertly blended with the citrus fruit flavour of bergamot, to deliver an uplifting tea with a unique floral aroma and refreshing taste.

This classic blend was especially made forCharles Grey, the 2nd Prime Minister of England. Twinings has been making Earl Grey tea since the 1830's.

2. JASMINE GREEN TEA
Green tea is known for its smooth flavour and refreshing taste. Green teas are made from leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same leaves as black tea. Green teas go through a process where the leaves are heated to prevent oxidation while black teas are oxidized for additional colour and flavour. Twinings' Jasmine Green Tea is layered with freshly picked jasmine flowers, allowing the tea leaves to absorb the delicate fragrance. The result is a mild and refreshing tea with an alluring aroma.

3. ICED STRAWBERRY & MANGO TEA INFUSION
Invokes an exotic, deliciously refreshing infusion of strawberry-and-mango.

The sweet, aromatic taste of mango is balanced by subtle hints of strawberry in this tropically inspired infusion. With a rich yet refreshing taste it has a satisfying, rounded quality and is naturally caffeine free with no added sugar, so you can enjoy it at any time of the day.
