A Montessori school employs a different approach to education, creativity and development than more traditional childcare, pre-school and kindergarten centres. The Montessori school method believes that children have an intrinsic ability to direct their development and that children should be seen as individuals, with preferences and gifts that should be emphasized in learning and communication. Today, almost every child seems to have an iPad or a smart phone. And every young adult is well versed with using these modern gadgets. In fact, what will we do without them? Every parent wants their child to have a head-start, and thus it is never too early to get such a device for their precious one. However, has anyone ever spent a minute to consider the effects of using such items from an early age? Will spending too much time with a “non-human” hinder speech and social development? FrogTrade Ltd, developer for the Frog Virtual Learning Platform which is currently being implemented in over 10,000 schools in Malaysia, recently won the title of “ICT Provider of the Year” at the prestigious 2013 British Educational Training and Technology (Bett) Awards 2013 held in London.
